Where The Light Comes In

“The wound is the place where the light enters you”

Rumi

One of the things that inspires me most about yoga postures are that they are a powerful metaphor for life. Some poses elicit feelings of joy, comfort, and ease while others can bring up frustration, fear, and anxiety. The poses themselves are neutral but they work on us in very individualized, often charged ways. The same is true for life circumstances. What takes place on any given day is neutral, but what we project onto a particular situation is based on our own personal narrative.

Like a challenging or arduous yoga posture, there is a resilience that comes from the process of moving through stressful situations. When we are in the thick of it we might feel resentful and place blame on others. But more often than not - once we get to the other side – what is left is gratitude.

Mountains are created from friction. Diamonds are the result of pressure. And you are the light that shines even in the darkest of shadows.

May we all find a space inside of us to be grateful for everything this Thanksgiving – the joy and the blessings but also the pain and the struggle. Without them, we could not truly know love.

Happy Thanksgiving!
