The Transience of Autumn

“It is when we are in transition that we are most completely alive.” -William Bridges

Fall is such a powerful reminder of transience of all things. For those of us who thrive in the warmth and light of summer there is a twinge of heartache comes with the arrival of shorter days and cooler weather. But if we look at the cycles of nature we can understand that autumn is the beautiful and integral representation of transition. Whether you choose to indulge in the fact that the leaves change color or that they eventually fall back to the earth, this season’s role is to carry us from light to darkness, from outward to inward, from birth to destruction.

Our minds often take us to those polarities without respect for the process and it is jarring on our nervous system. Just like there is the pause between the breath and space between sounds, there is the presence of the in-between. It’s nebulous, it’s vague, and it’s often fleeting but if we allow it to be - it can also be beautiful. Happy Fall, my friends.
